Area archeologica di Tharros – antica città punica e poi romana, bagnata dal mare, crocevia di popoli, fu fondata probabilmente dai Cartaginesi nel VII secolo a.C., divenendo un importante centro del Mediterraneo. Oggi, l’area archeologica offre un viaggio nel tempo, a pochi passi dal mare cristallino del Sinis, che ha inizio tra le rovine del villaggio nuragico di Su Murru Mannu, fino ai quartieri della città punica-romana, tra case, spazi artigianali, edifici termali e templi. Tutti questi elementi un tempo componevano il paesaggio di un centro vivo e dinamico vicino alle più bellissime spiagge di San Giovanni di Sinis.
Tharros Archaeological Area – An ancient Punic and later Roman city, washed by the sea and a crossroads of civilizations, Tharros was probably founded by the Carthaginians in the 7th century BC, becoming an important center of the Mediterranean. Today, the archaeological site offers a journey through time, just steps from the crystalline waters of the Sinis, beginning with the ruins of the Nuragic village of Su Murru Mannu and continuing through the quarters of the Punic-Roman city, among homes, craft areas, thermal buildings, and temples. All these elements once formed the landscape of a vibrant and dynamic center, close to the beautiful beaches of San Giovanni di Sinis.
